Katya is the Founding Partner of KV Legal. She graduated from the University of Malta with a Doctor of Laws in 2008 and later obtained her warrant to practice law at the Courts of Justice in February 2009. Following the successful acquisition of her warrant, Katya joined the law firm Lofaro & Tanti Dougall where she began representing clients both in the superior and inferior courts, boards and tribunals.
In March 2010 Katya joined the Government and worked in Family Court. Her next eight years were spent working closely with the Judges of Family Court and preparing all the legal work that was needed. She also managed the mediators and was Head of Mediations. Her work was concentrated on mediations, separations, care and custody, access and maintenance. She also trained new Court recruits in Family Law.
Katya has attended numerous seminars, both locally and abroad. She also had appearances on radio and television shows to speak about Family Law.
In 2018 Katya joined the Legal Aid Agency as an Assistant Advocate and began representing clients in Criminal Appeals. Her expertise shifted to Criminal Law as she began representing clients from Corradino Correctional Facility. Her aim in joining Legal Aid was to give a professional representation to people who had no financial means to obtain it.
Finally in 2019 Katya opened her own legal firm with the main areas of practice being Family, Civil and Criminal Law. Particular focus include separation and divorce proceedings, contract drafting, maintenance and access cases, bail proceedings, traffic accidents, criminal proceedings and appeal proceedings.
Katya is also a court expert frequently nominated by Magistrates to attend criminal inquiries and help with the collection of evidence on the scene of the crime.
